School and Community Relations

Reflection Paper – School and Community Relations                                         MWF 5:30 – 6:30pm
 February 4, 2013
1.       Describe the school’s location.
·         I was visited City Central School around 6:00 o’clock in the morning, February 5, 2013. The school is located at the heart of the city surrounded by commercial establishments, sports center,  and some government offices like Public Library, Girls Scout building, Phil health office. The estimated area of the school it’s almost 1 (one) hectare. The schools are anchored with the (3) three main streets namely: the Velez street, the Yacapin street and the Corrales street.And because it is a central school the pupils are coming form different barangays. The offices of City school division are found and the ALS (Alternative Learning School) or Non-formal education. But the City school division offices was hit by the fire last August 2012 including the gymnasium and 48 classrooms of grade 5 and grade 6 pupils.`

2.       Name some problems originating from the community that are experienced by teachers in the school, regarding:
·          City Central are populous school it caters more than 5 thousands pupils a day; according to the data I gathered last January 2012 after tropical Typhon Sendong was hit in CDO enrollees have declined comparing from previous year.
·         The fire that hit the 48 classrooms including division offices contributes big problems in accommodating the pupils for their classes, the principal re-route the classes schedule to accommodate other grades by dividing into morning ang afternoon sessions.
·         In terms of security measures, the school have directed to teachers for not allowing their pupils to go unless they will fetch by their parents or guardians.
·         Transportation is not a problems because mostly of the parents have their own motorcycle; in traffic conditions especially the school is anchored by main streets, the local government augmented the traffic administration to put traffic enforcers to assist the pupils especially during break time.
3.       On what occasions do school and community officials get together?
·         Town celebrations: particularly charter day and feast day, the purpose of this is to unite the institutions under the present administrations, collaborations of plans for the welfare of the pupils and teachers.
·         Problem situations: according the source, Dr. Myrna T. Castanos, Ph.D. Assistant District Supervisor made a dialogue to Mayor Dongkoy Emano to rehabilitate the building hit by the fire and it was granted. During radio program of Mayor Emano, He announced to allocate 50M for the reconstruction of the said building. And now the plan still on process.

4.       Name some learning resources existing in the community that school children and personnel can visit for mutual assistance and enjoyment. Please check.

5.       How is the community assisted by the school in return?

(    )         others, specify: during calamities like fire and floods victims-affected residences are temporary in-house in school classrooms. Feeding programs, scholar for out-school youth, literacy programs for dropped –out.

6.       Enumerate some instructional materials that could be obtained from the community.
·         Audio recordings
·         Uses of overhead and projector
·         Video tapes and films

7.       How will you show your school’s gratitude for the assistance and cooperation extended by the community leaders and members? During alumni celebrations, give plaque of appreciation for those give marvelous achievement for the benefits of the school.  Apart of the programs initiated by the schools like commencement exercises, boys & girls scout jamboree and brigada skwela.
