My Teacher, My Hero

          When I pass by in front of Sport Center Building I saw a huge tarpaulin hang on bearing a message “Salutes all the Filipino teachers” Being a teacher is not easy to manage a classroom, a lot of routine that we have to fix including our personal life. Although, a teacher is the second parent of the children while the children at school. We must be a learner for our own field so that we can adjust our life towards other people. The teacher has a structured setting but in actual learning it varies their teaching style. We should keep in touch with our children when they are inside the classroom and we must be observant of their actions. It is our responsibility as a second parent to asked and evaluates the condition of the children whenever there are unusual feelings and illnesses arises during classes. Teacher should be a model to all students. Our thinking and our word must be parallel to our actions. We must show to them ourselves being a leaders and stewards. Today's, generation, teacher should be attentive to the needs of students in term of moral aspect because this is the period where they explore their self towards their peers and friends.

          “My teacher, my hero” it's signifies that at present the teachers has given a big applauded by our institution because of their untiring contributions of the development of individuals through education. Teachers in the community are given many tasks especially during election, local and national. These are the noble tasks that embrace by the teachers. We should admire and proud of them for what they have done to us. We all know that they are preparing lessons for our children for the next day, waking-up early and go to school where they assign. Teachers are molding knowledge based of principles of learning, creating interesting motivation in order to deepen our understanding to equip us as a future leaders. Teacher is our model and hero; we always admire them to be a good one. Teachers develop a wholesome images base on principles of teaching profession, ethics and values. They are compassionate and responsible of all their undertaking in terms of individual learning especially young learners.

          To become a teacher is my greatest dream, my foremost and priority to reach with the help and guidance of GOD, because without Him we can do nothing. We give much appreciation and thanks to all our teachers. “A good teacher recognizes that each pupil has a different talent lying hidden and unexplored. His duty is to unearth it and help it blossom.”

Reflection Paper – Constructivism (Educational Theory)

          An educational theory that places emphasis on the learner, teacher’s role acts as facilitator of development from sensory motor where the child is unaware that if an object is not seen it still exist; pre-operational where the child need concrete physical situation and is unable to conceptualize in the abstract (e.g. to see, hear, feel in order to understand something); concrete where the child create logical structure to explain his/her environment and lastly formal operations where the child cognitive structures are like an adult and include conceptual reasoning which focuses of the mind and its effect on learning. Another psychologist who aspired in learning relates to social constructivism is Lev Vigotsky where He emphasized the effects of one’s environment like our own family, friends, tradition and background.

          I realized that these theories have used for many years as principles of teaching and learning integrate in different subjects especially from elementary pupils, particularly John Piaget’s theories are useful in child growth while his cognitive structures develop. At present, as modern technologies rise up, modern constructivism created according to Jerome Bruner which he incorporate the social and cognitive aspects which he introduces the Five E’s. Engage – let the pupils interested the lesson discussed (e.g. defined, ask question); Explore – use their inquiry to drive the process, by engaging question let them to analyze one problem and make a concrete solution; Explain – teacher determine their level of understanding by giving activity; Elaborate – make connections out from their inquiry relate from actual learning; Evaluate – give assignments, quiz or group discussion to measures their learning.

          If I will be the teacher who facilitates learning using these theories, I will make comprehensive my style in order to adjust the learning capacity of the children. The five E’s of Bruner will apply for teaching methods. Evaluation in each topic should be done to measures the learning assimilation.

Reflection Paper: Article – DORP - Creative ways

          Last August 31, 2012 @ 6:30 – 7:30pm, during our discussion about the DepEd Programs; we divide the whole class into 8 groups and Dr. Alonsabe distributed a Magazine featuring different articles related to different programs initiated by DepEd.  The purpose of this program is to help the interested students to continue their desire to finish high school.

          I choose DORP – creative ways in my article as an alternative ways to promote and minimizing the high school dropped-out. One of the livelihood program featured on that magazine is the Cooperative Savings and Cottages for interested pupils/students who wants to pursue their studies. The government is pushing their campaign for properly disposal of garbage including the NGO – Non-Government Organization and other sectors in the society who help preventing global warming. “May Pera sa Basura Program” this program can help the out of school youth by collecting plastic bottles and cups. Other garbage that can be help is the collecting papers for firewood, alternative soil for backyard gardening. This kind of livelihood is easy and manageable. The advantages of it will cut down the garbage collections every day and it can be reduced the gas consumption through burning of garbage.

          I realized how important to save our mother earth by segregating, reusing and recycling other usable garbage by making profits out of it. This program promotes the awareness of the children on how to manage our garbage. Let us works this hand in hand to make our future generations have a better environment to live-in.

          In my class I will promote garbage management system in order to help the young children aware of the importance of saving our environment by disposing properly and profitably.

Reflection Paper – Gagne’s Conditions of Learning

We discussed about Gagne’s conditions of learning has a structured pattern to follow in order to enhance and easy to discussed with the children. Comprehensive patterned through cognitive approach of Gagne’s theory. As we read his principles of various teaching criteria is differ from the traditional way but comprehensive one. There 9 events of instructional in teaching proper:

1. Gaining attention – to catch the attention of learner by creative motivation in attractive ways.
2. Informing the learner of the objective – to know the learner proper information of what was presented so that learners aware of the discussions.
3. Stimulating Recall of prior learning – recalls the previous lesson and makes connections at present topics.
4. Presenting Stimulus – by giving some activity related to the topics or give definitions of topics discuss.
5. Providing learning guidance – provides visual presentation that suits their topics and realistic demonstration.
6. Eliciting Performance – make an activity out of group and let answer on the board to show their output.
7.  Giving feedback – let the teacher make a constructive correction whenever they are wrong or appreciate their works.
8. Assessing performance – let individual pupils answer the activity to measures their comprehension, quiz and oral recitation and motivate their answer.
9. Enhancing retention and transfer – give more drill in order to practice their acquired learning.

After our discussion, we make our own lesson plan based on Gagne’s Conditions theory of we enable to finish and show our presentation in the class in different topics. Every group demonstrate their output based on assign topics. It is very interesting activity for us who practices teaching. We may able to give our capacity to teach.

If I will be a teacher, I will does varied teaching styles to make my class interesting. I will apply all the theories of teaching especially interactive discussion.

Albert Bandura – Social Learning Theory

According Jean Piaget those children developed his cognitive. Sensory development and pre-operational stages were the children start imitating what he observed and seen from adults. These critical stages of the children parent should be aware of this stage. The child is exposed to the community to adapt more learning so that they can interact their surrounding but need guidance from adults especially the mothers. Social learning theory can be considered a bridge or transmission between behaviours. His theory implies the teaching methods in a classroom setting. Students should be guided properly because this period might harm conditions of the students. Sometimes our technologies are easy to operate; examples: child can now on/off the TV or radio these kinds of behaviours of the child they learn it from their observation. Based on the article story it clearly emphasized that parents should know the actions of their children in order to away from harmful situations.

Wolfgang Kohler – Insight Learning

He developed the idea of insight learning that reinforce of thinking to create new learning acquisition. This referred to his behaviour as insight of our observation particularly the characteristics of the objects. Learning needs coordination of acquiring knowledge to enhance the basic study of the children which start at home. Our perspective should meet the needs of the learners involved study habit in order to understand fully their discovery learning.

According to Wolfgang Kohler which he experiment the Chimpanzee’s behaviour on how to develop the situation and resolve the difficult tasks which measures the intelligent sides of the apes. If we transfer the learning to the human it discovers the critical level of thinking of human being comparing to the animals.

Kurt Lewin – Life space

          This theory refers to perception of learning that expounded on Gestalt psychology principles. His theory on ‘life space adhered’, an individual has inner and outer forces that effect his perceptions and his learning. Inner forces include his own motivation, attitudes and feelings. Outer forces may include the attitude and behaviour of the teacher and classmates. Knowledge is conceived as a continous organization and arrangement of information according to the needs, purposes and meanings.

          I realized that all the theories presented by the well known psychologies about learning processes deeper comprehension on how we apply its principles in actual process. Learning acquired through imitating and adapting knowledge from any different lesson. Social theory is interesting and applicable in day to day learning because implies the social interaction of the child in acquiring knowledge from different levels. 

          In my own application, I will use these theories enhancing the knowledge of my pupils. The imitated behaviour leads to produce satisfying results. Reinforcement and punishment influence the extent to which an individual exhibits a behaviour that has been learned.
