Reflection Paper No. 13 the exceptionalities
I learned from our discussion :”Learners with exceptionalities” , exceptional learners those persons who are different in some way from the “normal” or “average” these include those with special needs related to cognitive abilities, behavior, social functioning, physical/sensory impairments, emotional disturbances and giftedness. Children who cannot proceeds directly information or remember.  All this kind of disabilities mental, emotional and physical disabilities needs deeper understandings. We differentiate the disability and handicap. Disability means the condition of being unable to perform as a consequence of physical or mental unfitness while handicap means a degree of disadvantage is dependent made by both the person and his environment. According to Lev Vygotsky in his theory about the socio-cultural, learners should needs scaffolding for their learning capabilities especially they have defects in mental, emotional and physical. Parents and teachers should give great contributions to develop well their learning structures even they have disabilities. Dr. Olga shared her experiences when she was assigned in Santa Ana National High School Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental as a principal; during her first day as a principal she made an order that all motorcycles should be parked at designated areas. She noticed that there is one motorcycle every morning get inside the school campus. But she found out that the child is carried by his father getting inside the classroom because he has a physical deformity.
I realize that people with disabilities is not a hindrance to reach an education. These kinds of persons need our supports and compassion. Teachers should building good relationship between them. There are some people with disabilities that are successful in their field with the supports of their parents and relatives.
When I’m become a teacher someday I will give courage and positive insight to them so that they will continue their ambition whatever happen because this is the only way they can get better future in spite their disabilities.

Reflection Paper No. 12 Individual Differences
Individual differences are necessary in planning for effective instruction. There 3 factors considered that bring the student diversity are 1. Socio-economic status, 2. Learning style 3. Exceptionalities. Socio is refers to status of every families in the society where they live while economic refers to money or income of every families. We are always says that education is the key to alleviate poverty. The learning process of a child lays the economics status of the families...e.g.: children from informal settler differs their learning styles, choosing schools, their lifestyle, their foods etc. this also affects the social interaction in classroom or the school campus. But those families living in the middle class and elite families have different lifestyle comparing those have less in resources. It also affects the learning capabilities of the children.
I realize that there are many strategies on how to level up the cognitive development of children while engaging different status of the community. Children can be more socially relates if we explain to the pupils that they are the same and equally treats even they have different status in life. The important is they understand each other by explaining well. There are also advantages for the pupils to emerge their learning styles so that they will know some negative & positive outlook in life.
If I will be a classroom adviser someday I’ll see to it that my pupils will not be deprived their rights being a children in terms of socio-economic status because is not hindrance to the individual to interact socially. Learning must be achieved without prejudice.  I assure that there is harmony, understanding and open communications both parents and teachers in terms of their needs and supports.

Reflection Paper No. 11 Scaffolding, a helper.

Last July 27, 2012 during our Facilitating Learning class we discussed about the meaning of “Hanapbuhay”. Hanapbuhay means search for the meaning of life. We go to school because we want to a better job someday; an opportunity comes if we have a profession. Like us we took up education because we want to teach, we want to be part of their learning. According to Howard learning of the children needs scaffolding – scaffolding is a process of helping the children to continue his/her studies. Dr. Olga used a ladder in her illustration on how scaffolding process applied to the learners especially the kindergarten pupils. Examples: Step I - a child learned to hold the pencil and write anything they want. Step II – a child learned to identify colors and shapes. Step III – a child learned to read alphabet, sounds & vowels and so on. Every level of child learning it will make difficult for them but the teachers are the one who help those learning cannot be accomplish independently. When appropriately done, this can make the learner confident and eventually can accomplish the task independently without any need for assistance.
I realize how important the role of the teachers towards the development of a child in nurturing the learning process until they stand their own learning styles. Teachers should always evaluate the learning capabilities of every pupil so that they will aware of the needs of every individual or reach a proximal development. Keep on acquiring new techniques in terms of learning strategies in relation to upgrade our learning styles.
If I will become a teacher someday, I will use varied teaching strategies to motivate the learning capabilities of my pupils and evaluate their potentials skills. More new learning became interesting aspects towards the development of child growth. Being compassionate and patience are values to be enhance for the welfare of my pupils.

Reflection Paper No. 10 Way of Life
On July 25, 2012 during our Facilitating learning class, we partly discussed the Erik Erikson theory. Dr. Alonsabe read two reflection output coming from my classmates. She emphasizes some thoughts out of said reflection. Integrity is one of the aspect teacher should holding on. She gave some insight what was the real life when we reach at the right ages for our settle down. Pre-adulthood which is a mode swing phenomena of the teenagers nowadays; they are explorative in any sense of events they want to. The social interactions of the young will help them to be matured enough dealing with people around us. All our learning must be applied when get married especially to our children in the future. She also reminded us particularly the order of Life which LOVES, MARRIAGES AND SEX. She illustrates the meaning of LIFE in order to give enlightenment the young in dealing with their relationship towards opposite sex. Young adult today are different from the past. Teachers and parents should help each other to reach the proper learning of the pupils, open communications is one of the best strategy should parents do. The word IF signifies INFATUATION & FRIENDSHIP – idolatry towards opposite sex, this is norms for young adult. These opposite sex likeness will not be properly handle it might be engaging for pre-marital sex and causes early pregnancies. Love and Exploration, when we reach ideal ages for marriage make it sure we are equipped and ready the challenges in life.
I realize parents and teachers should work hand in hand in molding the learning of the children. And because the children are explorative in any endeavors parents should monitor closely. Guide and lead them the right path for their better future.
If I will be a teacher someday, I will do same the upbringing that I applied to my own family the values that I implanted for them for their better good. Is not easy to handle young today but I have to find strategies to win their attention. A compassionate and a good listener are the values that I will be using in my class soon

Reflection Paper No. 9 Scaling Activity - Erik Erikson
After scaling myself I noticed that there are many differences between my personalities after the results of the scales. It’s very helpful for me to know myself better through the activity because I want to go deeper of myself of who is? If I base my score to the different stages: trust and mistrust, I am thankful to my parents who raised me well with discipline, nurtured by love and compassion what was the real life is. We are always taking care of our future, our work and be part of the community. In stage 2, I got 6 which mean shame and doubt. Sometimes I feel shame of my self which I want to explore and developed my self- esteem. In stage 3, I got 9. This stage I am very careful handling situation in regards of any matters arising from family, community and I really balance my decision making when time there is problem encountered and I know how to handle it. In stage 4, my score is 5. Its opposite for my actual values who am I because in real life I am resourceful in any matters concerning my family. If I relate to my works, I don’t have any piled works over my table before the days end. In stage 5, Identity vs. role confusion. I always show to myself that life is precious and short should be enjoy it. In stage 6:  Intimacy vs. isolation. When I got married on November 2004, I am very happy because I know that the person I choose who love me much. It’s normal for the new couple to have a misunderstanding which is the period of adjustment. We don’t have our own sibling because of health reason but we have a foster child. But the important thing for us is we love each other, open communication and trust.
I realize that training from the child is the best importance stages. Nurture them to help realize their values as a good person towards their family and the community they live. Being student and aspire to be a teacher this early time I should exert extra effort to find ways, techniques and teaching strategies because I should be ready when time comes that I’ll be handling  elementary pupils soon. Another thing that I would consider is prayers. I will put God always at the center of my life and I let my pupils aware of their individual stands of faith while they are young.

Reflection Paper - Psycho-social theory - Erik Erikson

Reflection Paper No. 8 Psycho-social theory Erik Erikson

Last July 20, 2012, we discuss about the Psycho-social theory of Erik Erikson. Psycho means “mind” and social means “external relationship”. Erik Erikson theory believed in the impact of the significant others in the development of one’s view of him, life and of the world. He presented a very comprehensive framework of eight psycho-social stages of development. He emphasized that a person goes through maladaptation and malignancies that result from failure to effectively the crisis; and the virtue that emerges when balance and resolution of the crisis is attained.  A mother has a most significant role in learning development of their children. Among the stages that crucial for the growth of the children are stages 1 – Infancy from ages 0-18 months trust vs. mistrust. Example of child needs is hungry, wet diaper and bite of insects so that they will recognize through crying. This stage the child needs should be address attentively and cared properly. Stage 2 is Toddler (18 months – 4 years) Autonomy vs. shame and doubt. This stage, the child should be recognized and appreciate their works and deeds. Stage 3 is Pre-school (4 t0 6 years) Initiative vs. Guilt. This stage, the child know how to eat independently, buttons their shirt, and take a bath. The members of the family need full cooperation to give proper guidance of children actions.
When I make a rough drop of my reflection, I realize how crucial the role of the mother in taking care of child from 0 to 6 years. Learning depends from their parents what kinds of motivation they are using. Children cognitive development should be handles properly.
If I will give an opportunity to be part of Deped as a teacher, I will do my best to be a competitive educator for the learning of the elementary pupils as future leaders of our country. I will devout my time and share my knowledge for the good of my pupils.

Reflection Paper - Lawrence Kohlberg's Moral dev't theory

Reflection Paper No. 7 Lawrence Kohlberg’s Moral dev’t. Theory
During our discussion, Dr. Alonsabe relates the cognitive development theories on Kohlberg’s Moral development theories:
·      In Stage one (obedience and punishment driven), individuals focus on the direct consequences of their actions on themselves.
·      In Stage two - Conventional morality is characterized by an acceptance of society's conventions concerning right and wrong. At this level an individual obeys rules and follows society's norms even when there are no consequences for obedience or disobedience
·       In Stage three (interpersonal accord and conformity driven), the self enters society by filling social roles.
·      In Stage five (social contract driven), the world is viewed as holding different opinions, rights and values. Such perspectives should be mutually respected as unique to each person or community. Laws are regarded as social contracts rather than rigid edicts.
·      In Stage six (universal ethical principles driven), moral reasoning is based on abstract reasoning using universal ethical principles. Laws are valid only insofar as they are grounded in justice, and a commitment to justice carries with it an obligation to disobey unjust laws.
After this discussion, I realize how important is too driven of the decision in terms of moral aspect. Example of this situation is the case of Mr. Heinz. It’s not easy for me to have a decision like Mr. Heinz case I need discernment and prayer about it. My level of understanding belongs to stage one but I will not withdraw my stand because if I apply this situation for my own life I will not steal, just like what my wife said, don’t let yourself suffer from the things that I know I will die. Let go and let God decide all of this.
As a future educator, I will teach the children on how to distinguish right or wrong situation base on moral principles and ethics because this can be a guide for them in the future.

Reflection Paper No. 6 Basic Cognitive Concepts

We are reviewing the Piaget’s Cognitive Development which we are discussing the Basic Cognitive Concepts: First is SCHEMA, Schema is a cognitive structures by which individual intellectually adapt to and organize their environment; meaning this is the period of the children were they gather information based on their own observation through their sight & hearing. A child takes information from their surroundings base of their ability to determine objects which they can identify and figured out. 2nd is Assimilation, which means process of fitting a new experiences into an existing or previously created cognitive structure or schema; meaning what they saw it might compared to smaller one is also a dog. 3rd is Accommodation, which means process of creating new schema; meaning the thinking level of the child increased because he/she can identify objects that has same structure. Last is Equilibrium, which means achieving proper balance between assimilation and accommodation; meaning the cognitive learning of the child based on the objects and experiences should be properly handled their learning process.
Base of our discussion, I realize that the big role of the mother is essential in nurturing the child because we are building blocks of learning at the early ages which led them to be a better person.
In my part as a future teacher, I will teach them the good values and show them as an example because this is a crucial stage for their development.  Like the stage theorists who came before them, Jean Piaget – and, as a result, Lawrence Kohlberg – believed that each stage of development must be completed before an individual could move on to the next. In other words, children can’t skip the cognitive lessons learned in toddlerhood or preschool; they need to pass through those stages before they can enter each successive cognitive state.

Reflection Paper No. 5 Conservation

During our discussion about the 2nd stage of Piaget’s Stages of Cognitive Development which is Pre-Operational Stage.  We enhance more the importance of its function especially pupils from elementary age. Conservation means ability to know that certain properties of objects (mass, number, volume, etc.) do not change even there is a changes in appearance. Here some cases of study and observation on how conservations applied to the learning structures of the children at the ages of 2 to 7 years old:

Water – two glasses with the same amount of water. The pre-operational child when asked, they would say it’s the same. But, when the water of the second glass in transferred to a taller glass the pre-operational child says the taller glass has more water compare to the other one.

Cracker – two crackers on the same size but the other one is cracked into two. The child says not fair. When the other cracker is cracked also, the child would say it’s fair.

Stick – two sticks aligned in the same position. The pre-operational child would say it’s the same. But, when the second stick is more in an inch from the first sticks the 2nd stick is longer.

Kite – the child asked me to create kites in order play her younger sister which is 2 year old. I made two kites in the same color but different in sizes, the child identifies which of them is small and big.

Clay – two rolls of clay. The pre-operational child both clay is the same when he is asked. But, when the second day is formed into a log from, the child says its bigger has more clay.

I realized that through conservation method, children develop gradually the thinking skills they need to understand the situations.

Develop the habit of observant the behavior and characteristic of each pupils when I am become a teacher someday. Part of my responsibilities is enhancing their learning capabilities by nurturing and showing comprehensive educational materials.

Reflection Paper No. 4 Principles of Teaching
We discuss the principles of teaching ang learning and she opened up the question, what do you mean by principles? From the root word “princepts” it means first or “concepts” theory.  We relate our discussion to psychology. Psychology, taken from two Greek words “psysche” and “logos” literally means “soul” and “mind and study” it is emphasizes “ study of human behavior. Behavior as defined psychologically, refers to actions or activities of the individuals especially to the young children who are belong to the pre-school. According to Psychologist Mendel, learning can be a formed of Heredity which is natures and nurtures depend upon their growth and environment.
I realize that learning can be attainable in different ways and structure. Structure in a sense of family backgrounds of the child, their community and their status of life, the young learner his/her acquiring knowledge depends on how the learning process facilitated by the teachers.
Being a future educator I have to equip with knowledge and learning strategies and techniques in facilitating learning to children at school and community because I will encounter pupils in individual differences.

Reflection Paper No. 3 Deped Programs

Our discussion is all about education programs of the government under the Department of Education. The Bureau of Secondary Education introduced its plan to offer OSHP or Open High School Programs for those interested individuals who wants to finish high school by this program. These programs are catered by all walks in life, race, gender, culture and disability. The aimed of this program is education for all which means that no dropped out in every school throughout the country until year 2015.
I realized that of Dr. Alonsabe said regarding the education programs for the dropped out students in high school. She opens up this to us because in the future we are part of it as a future educator. We can help these students who stop for many reasons because of poverty, child labor, peace and order situation and the like. This program is reachable with help of stake holders and supports also by the NGO, private individuals and the Church.   Our role here is to encourage and convince those who want to finish high school out of his program
After the presentation of new education programs, we discuss the teacher and student relation on how the teaching strategy impart to the learners. What are methods uses of the teacher? First, ideas and technique presented, 2nd is motivation, how the student move by their learning and having creative enough of their works and activities and appreciation in a positive ways. I want to focus on this field especially the child developmental theories.

Reflection Paper No. 1
Facilitating learning come first in my mind what is all about? Facilitate means – to assist or to conduct while learning means – process of acquiring responses as a result of special practice. When we meet Dr. Olga Alonsabe our instructor of ED-123B Facilitating Learning, she discussed about the meaning of SKOOL, principles of teaching & learning. I was amazed her status of life being an educator in spite of her ages but her willingness and enthusiasm to teach education. After she introduced herself, her family backgrounds, and the position she obtained in Department of Education as a Supervisor in Division Office. In day two, she discussed the meta-cognition which refers to knowledge and experiences; phantasm means the idea of mind, the uses of senses that connect to our brain. She illustrated the image of a girl to emphasize their uses and their functions.
Then I realize all those discussion can be a big help for me in developing my skills, my strategies and creative teaching when I finish my studies. At first, when we meet Dr. Marie Jade Alonsabe who is also my instructor in Social Dimension, she shares with us on how to handle Grade pupils especially in grade 1; she narrates about quarreling, go outside, crying, urinating etc.. I come into my mind “Sakripisyo gyud diay ang maging teacher” but I feel something different. I challenge myself to continue my desires to become a good teacher someday. I know there’s a lot of sacrifices and trainings I will be encounter before I finish my studies but God is always at my side.
Many of my friends and even my Manager ask me why I continue my studies in a field of education. I directly answer because I want to help nurtures kids with good values, God-fearing and a good leader someday. Another thing really aspire me to become a teacher those street and homeless children around the city. I felt worried every time I saw this kids using rugby and solvent, I felt crumple my heart and I said “I hope there many kindhearted people help this children and sent them to school. I want to be volunteer teacher for them. Our government and the Department of Education still find measures to solve our problems in education and I want to be part of even a little contribution for the welfare of this children.
Base on my observation when I visited different parts of Mindanao particularly in Lanao Province and partly in Bukidnon, there are many children belong to the cultural minorities hunger for education because of transportation problems, peace & order situation, unemployment and insurgency. My dream is to help them, offer my time and talents to achieve this problem.

Reaction Paper # 2

When I heard my classmates sharing their perspective about the dilemma of Mr. Heinz, we have our different opinion and views. Others said “yes, I would steal the drugs because I want to save my wife even if I’m put into prison for giving her a chance to live”. But others said “no, I wouldn’t steal the drug because I would be punished. The law says stealing is wrong, so it is wrong.” If I connect this theory of Lawrence Kohlberg’s particular in moral aspect, it would be based the experiences of children during their growth period on how their parents explained the essence of truth and wrong. These beliefs are planted in the mind of the children when they grow.
I realize that if I say yes, I would steal I’ll be punished according to the law because I did not obey the law. If it is no, I wouldn’t punish because I obey the law. If I connect it to Lawrence Kohlberg’s stage of moral development which is punishment/obedience, the child learn of what is wrong and right at the beginning of his/her development. I must be careful of with my words & actions towards them.
If I will be Mr. Heinz, if say yes, what would happen to me and my family? Different scenario will follows, I put myself behind bars, my wife continuing her illness because that is cancer, my children will traumatize because of the incidents, other people judge me for what I am done and many more reaction after what happen. It’s hard to be a good person to my family especially in times of crisis.

Group II – Observed Group IV
A normal behavior of the children during first day of school were they cried, fears; bully their seatmates, quarreling, bowel movement and making noise. Besides of this attitude of children inside the classroom how would be the teacher handled it? During the scene portrayed by the group 4 my own observation was this: they don’t have an opening prayer, mostly of the children are silently observant, the motivation of the teacher is good, they like the action song.
I realize that being a teacher should keep a deep sense of patience, compassionate and loving. Because the school is another home of their learning and should be handle properly. The different behavior of the children depends upon my strategy on how to balance the areas concern of individuals.
If God allows me to become a teacher soon I will discern all my actions and my teaching techniques in order to reach the children the desired learning they want to. Today, we are technology base teaching methods. We’re able to embrace this and apply this in my motivation.
